Allure's Nude Issue

Why do these "models" think seeing THEM nude makes the rest of us feel good about ourselves?

-Betty Editors

If you've ever wondered if the business of women's magazines is making women feel like s**t, the May issue of Allure should leave no doubt. It's Allure's nude issue, and the editors asked five celebrities to bare it all for the camera. So we get to see Padma Lakshmi, Chelsea Handler, Eliza Dushku, Lynn Collins, and Sharon Leal air-brushed, Photoshopped and buck-nekkid.
Just what you want from a magazine that says its mission is to try to help you look and feel better.
Oh, but these photos don't make you feel so good? You mean you don't feel really great after being shown women who look maybe a thousand times better than you have ever looked? In fact, you feel, maybe, just a tiny bit suicidal staring at all that smooth skin, cellulite-free thighs and perky boobs?
So why did the magazine, which calls itself "The Beauty Expert," ask these women to bare it all? Why do you think? Oh, we're sure they would say something about how posing this way builds a woman's self-confidence and self-esteem or some such b.s. (Yes, we're being ladies, here, and maybe being ladies is part of the point we're making. And what the hell is wrong with that?)
Allure may try to go on about all the high-minded reasons they asked these women to take it all off. But it is obvious that Allure's morphing into Hustler has absolutely nothing to do with female empowerment. Just the opposite.
Why would celebs want to do this? Well, because nowadays C- and D-list celebrities will do practically anything. Come to think of it, A-list celebs aren't immune. Remember Jennifer Aniston, turning forty and appearing almost nude in GQ? But stripping for a men's magazine makes some sense, doesn't it? Especially when you want to show up your ex-husband's new squeeze. We get that. What we don't get is soft-core porn in a magazine that's only supposed to tell you what the best brand of drugstore mascara is.
A couple of the celebs involved in the Allure shoot echoed those same hard-to-believe self-empowerment, self-esteem, self-confidence lines. Lynn Collins, whoever she is, says, "Women with confidence in their bodies are the sexiest thing, so I put on my cape of courage and did it. It was quite liberating!" Yeah, sure. While Sharon Leal, whoever she is, found being full-frontal behind a lace curtain "liberating," too. Wonder who wrote their quotes.
Chelsea Handler, never a shrinking violet, just goes for plain unabashed narcissism and tells the readers how much she admires her own boobs. She declares, "They're real and perky... the important thing is that I know about them, and the guys I've slept with know about them." But why exactly does Allure think it is important for us to know about them?
Padma Lakshmi, who is lying on her side, with her butt jutting out--a salute to a million Playboy and Penthouse photo spreads--just can't help telling us how darn sexy she is. She says, "I tend to sleep in the nude. I'm an innately tactile person and a very sensual-leaning woman. You have to use the word 'leaning' or it sounds like I'm boasting!" Guess what, Padma, it still sounds like your boasting.
Oh, we know you want to see  more of the photos. So here they are.
And they make you feel as lousy as they made us feel. Right?
These photos are all over the web with hundreds of comments. Not one that we've seen says anything remotely about women's empowerment.
Allure, it's a really cheap shot. Allure, you ought to be ashamed.

9 Celebrities Unretouched

Holly Madison wants us to know that she isn’t perfect. And so she allowed Life and Style magazine to publish a photo of her in a bikini without retouching. I don’t see much in the cellulite department, but Holly insists that it’s there. “I have cellulite—and had it even when I was at my absolute thinnest. I’m never not going to have cellulite,” she said. “People need to just accept that it’s there.” Good point, but I’m actually more interested in that scar on her lower back that looks suspiciously like a butterfly tramp stamp that’s been lasered off. [Huffington Post]
Posing for photos sans retouching has become a big celebrity trend. And I gotta give it up for them—there is something reassuring about seeing that famously gorgeous ladies don’t just come that way and understanding that there’s an entire industry that makes people look the way they do on glossy pages. After the jump, more stars without retouching.
In the same issue of Life and Style, Kim Kardashian went unairbrushed, too. I couldn’t find photos, but never fear—she’s done this lots before. She went naked and as-is in the May issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “The message [of this shoot] is embrace your curves and who you are,”
Kim also sent the same message in 2009, when she went unairbrushed in a bikini in (you guessed it) Life & Style. Deja vu.
Around the same time, Britney Spears released before and after retouching versions of her Candies campaign. I spent like an hour noting the subtle differences.

Bethenny Frankel did this, too, when she was criticized for looking way too perfect in her PETA ad. “Everything I’m about is being honest and being upfront,” she said. “So if people are talking and saying [the photo] was airbrushed…then, you know what? Here’s the picture.” She looks pretty good there, too.

Marion Cotillard was brave and agreed to go without airbrushing on the September cover of Vanity Fair. She looks gorgeous and actually her age.

Joy Bryant also went nude and unretouched in Harper’s Bazaar, in the same spread Kim Kardashian appeared in. Wait, she looks incredible. That doesn’t help.

Sadie Frost guest-edited Grazia magazine last year, and included a photo of herself naked without retouching. “I want to make a big point here,” she said. “It’s not about taking my clothes off and using digital trickery to make me look slimmer. I’m like any other woman. I have bits I like—my boobs, my shoulders, my arms—and bits I don’t—my bum and my stomach.”

Claudia Schiffer posed for a Tank magazine cover topless and without retouching. Her face looks amazing, but I see a few too many bones for comfort in the body.

Elizabeth Hurley splits from husband of three years

Elizabeth Hurley confirms split from husband of three years, Arun Nayar, after tabloid reports of her having an affair with cricketer Shane Warne surfaced.
Elizabeth Hurley’s three-year marriage to Indian businessman Arun Nayar is apparently over!
On Sunday model/actress Elizabeth Hurley, 45, Tweeted : “Not a great day. For the record, my husband Arun and I separated a few months ago. Our close family & friends were aware of this.”
Hurley’s announcement of a split comes after News of the World’s report claiming Elizabeth was having an affair with cricketer Shane Warne.  The tabloid had photos and video of Hurley and Warne kissing, claiming they spent the night together on Wednesday.
Hurley began dating Indian textile heir Arun Nayar in 2002, after ending her 13-year romance with actor Hugh Gran.  Hurley and Nayar wed in 2007 in a huge ceremony in a castle in England and later in a palace in India.

Megan Fox Is Living In Married Bliss

Months after Fox and Brian Austin Green tied the knot on the beach in Hawaii, the couple are still in the blissful ‘honeymoon stage.’
“Getting married was the best thing I’ve ever done,” Fox told People at the Passion Play Toronto International Film Festival premiere on Friday. “I married my best friend. I’m so lucky to get to be with him every day, and he’s my protector. I feel so safe and happy and completed.”
Green, 37, knew that Fox, 24, was the one. “[Marriage is] the one thing that I was really specific in waiting for until I was with somebody that I knew that I would be right with and she’s the one. She makes me happy and a better person. She’s everything,” Green told People.
The couple had been dating on-and-off for 6 years, and finally decided to take the next step in June. Green admitted, “There’s nice stability that comes with getting married. It’s a nice thing to know that I’ll come home to her and she’ll come home to me. It’s not the paper so much – it’s saying the vows and meaning it.”
Green also stated how great of a mom Fox has become to his 8-year-old son Kassius. “She’s helped me raise him since he was two. He loves her to death and she loves him to death. They have a great relationship. That’s all I can ask for.”
Fox definitely enjoys parenthood, “It’s amazing. I really enjoy it. It’s a lot of work but I like it. It grounds me. I like being domestic.” She hinted that she’d like to have a baby with Green, “I would love to be a biological mommy some day. That would make me very happy.”

Actress Evangeline Lilly Is Sperminated

Former Lost actress Evangeline Lilly is pregnant.
Actress Evangeline Lilly was spotted in Hawaii with a pretty big baby bump.
This will be the first child for Evangeline and her longtime boyfriend Norman Kali, who she met when she filmed Lost.  Kali worked on the film set as a production assistant.
Lilly has previously spoken in interviews about wanting a family.
The actress stated, “I have always wanted to have a child of my own and I will always want to go through the gift that women have been given to experience that, so I hope to be a mother at some point.”
Lilly also said she planned to have one child of her home and then adopt other children.
Evangeline adds,  “We’re not going to protect the Earth the way we need to protect it if we don’t stop making so many babies. I think I can allow myself one child – and from then on, I think I would have to adopt. It makes sense not to add to the population problem.”
